A Letter to Alana

Dear Alana,

I really don't know where to begin. I can't believe next month we will be celebrating your 4th birthday. Before you were born, I envisioned what a birthday party would be like for our baby girl, but I never thought it would be just us celebrating without you. We have started a tradition for your birthday, we have a family dinner and release presents (balloons) to heaven for you.

My life has changed so much since you were born. Your life helped me find purpose in mine. Now, I realize my purpose is to help other families, like us, who have had to say goodbye to their precious babies.

Your life was short but so complete. You never had to experience hurt, pain, or worry. You only knew love. This quote from William Shakespeare always reminds me of you: "And though she be but little, she is fierce!" You were born a fighter, against all odds you fought. And though your life here on this earth was only 36 hours, your legacy lives on. A legacy of love and support. 

I hope I have made you proud and that my life can leave such a legacy as yours!
